Write a precis of the following passage, giving it a suitable title: Communication is an essential requirement for all human performance and interaction. It welds individuals into groups by developing common interests, by crystallising common concepts, by establishing relationships, by extending cooperation, by sharing experience and by establishing a common heritage. The underlying principle of each of these acts is that we use language as a means of communication. In a much broader sense, language is a tool of communication, but aside from language, there is also another important, but often overlooked means of communication. When we talk about language as a means of communication, we mean the usage of language and words– how they sound, how they are formed, their meaning, and their structure. However, we do not use just words or language to communicate. Non-verbal communication– our body movements, our expressions and our gestures - convey so much more than we are aware of. In fact, it is often said that a person may lie with their words, but their bodies reveal the truth. When someone’s body language is inconsistent with their words, we tend to believe the body language rather than the words. Thus, both these means of communication– verbal and non-verbal, are both essential in effective communication. For example, a person may say that they are interested in what we are talking about, but if they fidget constantly, or their eyes keep darting away, or their legs are angled away from us, their body movements convey that they are either distracted, or they are not interested in what we have to say. This is why, to excel in communication, it is important to focus on both what we are saying, but on what our bodies are conveying. A pleasant facial expression, open gestures, and correct posture suggests that you are confident, honest and invested in what you are trying to express. No matter the content of the speech, if the speaker just drones on without making eye contact with the audience, or he crosses his arms, the audience will find it hard to fully connect with him or what he is saying. The most effective communication, therefore, incorporates the skillful usage of both verbal and non-verbal means of communication.
